Steamed Broccoli

  • 16 oz. bag frozen broccoli florets
  • 1 t. minced garlic
  • 1-2 T Butter or olive oil
  • 1-2 t lemon juice
  • Shredded cheddar cheese (Optional)

Place broccoli florets in a steamer basket over boiling water and cook until crisp tender, 3-4 minutes.  It may take a bit longer for fresh broccoli.  If using a steamable bag of broccoli, follow directions on the bag.  While broccoli is cooking, heat butter or olive oil in a skillet and sauté garlic about 1 minute.  Turn off fire, add hot broccoli and toss in lemon juice.  Garnish with cheese if desired.  Tip:  Shredded cheddar cheese is a great way to introduce broccoli to finicky eaters.  As time goes on, reduce the amount of cheese until they are eating plain broccoli.  This method works well with many veggies such as spinach and cauliflower.  My kids were very finicky eaters, and today as adults they will eat any vegetable served at my table.
