Cook perfect rice every time with this South Louisiana method.
Rice seems like such a simple recipe. And, you might be thinking why would I take the time to share a recipe when it’s right on the package. Have you ever had your rice come out gummy or with hard kernals? If so, you’ll understand that there is a right and a wrong way to cook rice. A friend and colleague shared this method for making perfect rice, and it is very different from the package instructions.
Hint: My Perfect Rice recipe can be doubled , but that does not change the cooking time. Use this recipe when making rice to go with my Chicken and Sausage Gumbo.

12 minutes to cook; 20 minutes to sit
FOR PERFECT RICE
- 2 cups raw rice
- 3 cups cold water
- 1 t salt
- 1 1/2 T butter
Find our products in a store near you
Bring above ingredients to a good simmer. Cover, turn down, and continue simmering for 12 minutes. (Do not remove lid) Turn off fire, leave covered, and allow to sit for at least 20 minutes before serving. When ready to serve, remove lid, and fluff with a fork.
